Guest House Exploitation in Pakistan โ Recognise, Escape and Report
๐จ In Immediate Danger?
Police: 15 | Women's Helpline: 1099 | Edhi Foundation: 115 | FIA: 9911
Informal "guest houses" in Pakistani cities are sometimes fronts for sexual exploitation โ operating openly in residential areas, often protected by bribes to local police. This guide helps you recognise exploitation, report it, and get help.
How Exploitation Operates Through "Guest Houses"
- Advertised on Facebook, WhatsApp groups, and OLX as legitimate accommodation
- Women are brought from smaller cities with promises of work
- Identity documents confiscated on arrival
- Debt bondage โ "you owe us for transport, food, room"
- Phones monitored or removed
- Violence used to ensure compliance
Signs Someone Is Being Exploited
- Appears fearful, avoids eye contact, defers to a third person
- Does not have possession of their own ID or money
- Cannot speak freely โ a "manager" answers for them
- Signs of physical abuse โ bruising, malnourishment
- Does not know their address or how to leave
This Is Human Trafficking Under Pakistani Law
The Prevention of Trafficking in Persons Act 2018 (PTPA) makes trafficking punishable by 7 years to life imprisonment. "Consent" obtained through deception, coercion, or debt bondage is not consent under the law.
