Immediate Steps After Sexual Assault

- Do not shower or change clothes โ preserve forensic evidence
- Seek medical help โ emergency rooms can provide care without mandatory police reporting
- Contact a support organisation โ they can accompany and advise you
Medical Care
- Emergency contraception should be offered within 72 hours
- STI testing and prophylaxis available
- Forensic evidence collection (Sexual Assault Evidence Kit) โ possible without mandatory reporting at major hospitals
Legal Reporting Process
- File FIR at any police station โ you have the legal right to do so
- Request female police officer under Women Protection Act 2006
- Medical examination by government doctor
- Statement to magistrate
