How Common Is This?
Research consistently shows that 20–40% of men experience some form of sexual dysfunction at some point in their lives. In Pakistan, the combination of performance anxiety, stress, and reluctance to discuss the topic means many men suffer silently for years — often unnecessarily.
Erectile Dysfunction (ED)
What It Is
Difficulty achieving or maintaining an erection sufficient for intercourse. Occasional difficulty (especially under stress) is normal. Consistent difficulty over weeks warrants attention.
Causes
- Psychological: Anxiety, depression, performance pressure, relationship stress — very common in newly married Pakistani men
- Physical: Diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, hormonal imbalances, obesity
- Lifestyle: Smoking, excessive stress, sleep deprivation, alcohol/drugs
- Medication side effects: Many common medications cause ED
Treatment
- For psychological causes: sex therapy, stress management, communication with partner
- For physical causes: medical treatment of underlying condition
- Medications (PDE5 inhibitors like sildenafil — "Viagra"): effective and safe when prescribed by a doctor
- Available in Pakistan — see a urologist or general physician
Do not buy unregulated "herbal" ED products from chemists or online. Many are ineffective or contain unlisted pharmaceutical compounds at unsafe doses. See a real doctor.
Premature Ejaculation (PE)
The most common male sexual complaint. Ejaculating within 1–2 minutes of intercourse beginning, especially if it causes distress. Treatment includes:
- Behavioural techniques: stop-start method, squeeze technique
- Pelvic floor exercises (yes, men have these too)
- Topical anaesthetic sprays (available in Pakistan pharmacies)
- Medications: SSRIs (dapoxetine specifically for PE) under medical supervision
Low Libido
Low sexual desire in men is less discussed but equally real. Common causes: depression, high stress, low testosterone, relationship problems, pornography overuse. A hormone test from your GP is the first step — testosterone deficiency is treatable.
