Your Body — Puberty
- Breast development, pubic and underarm hair, body shape changes — all normal
- Menstruation — your first period (hayd) typically starts between ages 10–16
- Vaginal discharge — normal and protective. Changes in colour or smell may indicate an infection worth seeing a doctor about.
- Sexual feelings — normal. Not a sign of bad character.
Menstruation — What You Need to Know
- During your period, you do not pray or fast — this is Allah's permission, not punishment
- After your period ends, perform ghusl before resuming prayer
- Menstrual pain (dysmenorrhoea) is real and treatable — ibuprofen is safe and effective. See a doctor if pain is severe.
- Irregular periods in the first 2 years are normal. Persistent irregularity after that is worth investigating.
Consent — Your Absolute Right
No one has the right to touch your body without your clear permission. Not your husband, not your male relatives, not anyone. If someone touches you without consent, it is THEIR crime, not your fault.
- In marriage, forced sex is wrong and un-Islamic even if Pakistani law is unclear on marital rape
- If you are touched inappropriately by anyone, tell a trusted adult
- Contact Umang (0311-7786264) or Aurat Foundation (051-2890505) for support
Online Safety — Critical
- NEVER send intimate photos to anyone — once sent, you lose control forever
- Men who "love" you online and quickly ask for photos are grooming you
- If someone threatens to share your photos unless you pay/meet — do not comply. Report to FIA: 0800-9999.
Relationships and Marriage
You have the right to consent to your own marriage. An Islamic nikah requires your verbal consent. Forced marriage (without genuine consent) is invalid in Islam.
In relationships before marriage — understand that your reputation in Pakistan is unfortunately more vulnerable than a man's. Protect yourself not from shame, but from those who would exploit you.
