Khula Is Your Islamic & Legal Right

Khula is a woman's right to seek divorce through the courts under Islamic law, with or without the husband's consent. It is available to all Muslim women in Pakistan and cannot be denied to you.

What Is Khula?

Step-by-Step: How to File for Khula

Hire a family lawyer โ€” or use free legal aid from LHRLA or Aurat Foundation. You can also file yourself.
Draft a Khula petition stating your grounds. Common grounds: cruelty, neglect, incompatibility, infidelity, non-maintenance, addiction.
File the petition at your local Family Court (in the district where you or your husband lives).
The court issues a summons to your husband. He has 30 days to respond.
Court attempts reconciliation โ€” you can decline. You are not required to reconcile.
If no reconciliation, court grants khula decree. Usually within 3โ€“6 months.
Register the divorce at the Union Council within 30 days to make it legally final.
