How to spot a fake dating profile in Pakistan: the complete checklist.
Fake profiles are the foundation of almost every online dating scam. Learning to identify them before emotional investment is the single most effective protection available. This is a practical checklist — not theory.
The 5-minute fake profile check
Step 1: Reverse image search their photo
Right-click their profile photo → "Search image with Google" (or go to images.google.com and upload it, or use tineye.com). If the same face appears under a different name anywhere — Instagram, a modelling portfolio, a stock photo site — the profile is fake. Do this for every photo they've shared.
Step 2: Check their profile creation date and activity
On Facebook: click their name → "About" → "Intro" shows join date. On Instagram: their first post date is visible. A real person's account has years of activity. A fake account was often created recently and has a suspiciously curated set of photos.
Step 3: Look at their friend/follower list
Real people have mutual connections, tagged photos, friends who comment naturally on their posts. Fake accounts have few friends, no tags from others, and friends who seem to have no real connection to each other.
Step 4: Request a live video call
Ask for a live video call within the first week. Give a specific challenge: "Can you wave at me?" or "Can you hold up two fingers?" A real person can do this. A catfisher using stolen photos cannot. Pre-recorded videos will not respond to real-time requests.
Step 5: Verify their claimed details
They say they're a doctor at Aga Khan Hospital — look up Aga Khan's staff directory or call the hospital. They say they work at a specific company — LinkedIn should have a record. They say they went to a specific university — that's verifiable. Real details leave a trail. Fake ones don't.
The golden rule: If they cannot do a live video call within 48 hours of you requesting one, treat the profile as fake regardless of how convincing everything else seems.
Red flags that suggest a fake profile
- Profile created recently with very few posts
- Photos that look professional or model-quality (often stolen)
- They claim to be abroad — UK, USA, Gulf, "working on a ship"
- Extremely fast emotional escalation — love within days
- Avoiding video calls with constant excuses
- Perfect English or Urdu that feels slightly translated
- Asking to move to WhatsApp immediately
- Story inconsistencies — places, dates, details that don't add up
- Photos that don't match — face looks the same but background/age varies inconsistently
What to do when you find a fake profile
- Do not confront them yet — screenshot everything first
- Report the profile to the platform (Facebook, Instagram, or the dating app)
- Block and stop all contact
- If you've shared intimate photos or been threatened, report to FIA: 0800-02345
- If you've sent money, contact your bank and FIA immediately
